Ostrom & Son, Inc. is applying for a conditional use permit, as required by <br />the Building Inspection Department, for finishing the lower level of Mrs. Jeanne <br />Mithuns' home located at 755 Femdale Rd. N. The space is to be used as guest <br />quarters. Currently the home has only two bedrooms. This is an inadequate <br />situation when her five children and ten grandchildren come to visit, she has to put <br />them up in a hotel <br />Mrs. Mithun would prefer having them stay in her home yet maintain her privacy. <br />Instead of adding an addition to the home, finishing the lower level as guest <br />quarters would solve this concern. <br />The home has a pool, so a lower level laundry is planned for washing and drying <br />the pool towels. A kitchenette is planned so children can have snacks without <br />imposing on the homes main kitchen. I believe these are the concerns of the <br />Building Department and the reason they are asking for a conditional use permit. <br />Her brother is now' visiting to help care for their elderly parents. Privacy has been <br />compromised in the two-bedroom home. Finishing the lower level would also <br />solve this concern. <br />The project includes making the new space a walkout lower level with an exterior <br />entry, like many homes in the Orono area, for safety reasons, privacy and natural <br />light.* We do not see the reason for a conditional use pemit but respect your <br />request. <br />The space is not to be used as rental property. <br />Sincerely, <br />Kathe Ostrom <br />C.N.
