Orono Fire Needs Assessment <br />44 | Page <br /> <br />Relative Risk Category Zoning <br />Low Risk Areas zoned and used for agricultural purposes, open space <br />and very low-density residential use. <br />Moderate Risk Areas zoned for medium density single family properties, small <br />commercial and office uses, low-intensity retail sales and <br />equivalently sized business activities. <br />High Risk Areas zoned for higher-intensity business districts, mixed use <br />areas, high density residential, industrial, warehousing and <br />large mercantile centers. <br /> <br /> <br />Weather can be another risk for the community that will play a role in service demand. LLFD <br />has to respond to flooding, winter storms, wind storms and tornados. <br />There are several transportation corridors and various modes of transportation that fall within <br />Orono. Highway 12 along with County Road 15, 19 and 112 that move through Orono. <br />Regardless of the size of the roadway or the speed limit, any roadway has the potential for <br />motor vehicle crashes, vehicle fires, medical emergencies, brush fires or hazardous material <br />spills/leaks. Each of these are not only a risk to our community but the responders are also at <br />risk of being struck by vehicles while operating near moving traffic.
