The purpose of the council item is to gain council approval for the following Position <br />Descriptions and authorization to begin the internal recruiting process to fill them. <br /> <br />2. Background. Currently all of the Maintenance Workers with in Public Works hold the same position <br />with the same duties. However, as the department has grown, its responsibilities have increased, the <br />technology, rules and regulations associated with public utilities have expanded, it is necessary to <br />dedicate personnel to the maintenance of our sewer and water systems. After researching other cities <br />organizations, the Public Works Superintendent developed a new position description (Exhibit A). <br /> <br />3. Utility Maintenance Worker Summary. <br /> <br />a. Description. See Exhibit A. <br />b. Grade. 8 Pay Range $ 30.24-$ 37.43 <br />c. Collective Bargaining. Local 49 <br />d. Reports to. Public Works Utility Supervisor <br /> <br />4. Cost. These positions are budgeted for with in the Water and Sewer Enterprise budgets. The <br />positions change in grade from a current grade 7 to Grade 8 and will result in a potential increase in <br />wages of $5780/per position/per year. There are sufficient funds in the 2023 budget to cover the change. <br /> <br />5. Human Resources/Org Committee. The concept was reviewed with HR/Org Committee on April <br />5, 2023. The committee endorsed the concept and recommended staff bring it to council for approval. <br /> <br />6. Staff Recommendation. Staff recommends approval of the new position descriptions and authority <br />to conduct a selection process to fill 2 utility worker positions. <br /> <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED <br />Motion to approve the attached job descriptions and authorize staff to initiate the recruiting process to fill <br />the same. <br /> <br />Exhibits: <br />A.
