Leonard Lofgren
3845 Bayside Road
Long Lake, MN 55356
RE: Septic System
Dear Mr. Lofgren,
CITY of ORONO
Post Offite Hos 666Crystal Hay, Minnesota M.WeMunicipal Offiicas
On the North Shore of Lake Minnetonka
September 27, 1985
Field Inspector Lyle Oman informs me that your septic system is no
better of f than it ever was, and that you currently have the tank opened
up. He noted also that the ground around the tank and drainfield is
spongy and, of course, that the whole system is at or below lake level.
There are two reasons that an inspection was made now: 1 ) We received an
anonymous complaint about sewage being pumped to the lake from your
property. We see no evidence that this is occurring, but be reminded
that it is obviously not an accepted (or legal) practice. 2 ) We are
initiating a formal Alternative Waste Management Study this fall for
the Stubbs Bay area. This is the first step in the process leading to
installation of municipal sewers for your area. At this point, I
won't hazard a guess as to exactly when the sew --r will go in, but the
Council appears to have recognized the need for it and has gone on
record that Stubbs Bay is the next critical area to consider.
I have discussed with you in the past that there is virtually no way to
replace your drainfield system within the code requirements. The
only solution is holding tanks or municipal sewer. Hopefully the
latter option will become a reality soon. In the meantime, I must
require that you have your tanks pumped out by a licensed pumper as
often as necessary to eliminate any discharge to the lake.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely, '
Michael P.
