COUNCIL MEETING V <br />OfC I 3 1999 ^ <br />MINUTES OF THE TRUTH IN TAXATION Omuivu <br />HELD AT 7:00 P.M. ON MONDAY, DECEMBER 6,1999 <br />IN THE ORONO COUNCIL CHAMBERS <br />Members present: Mayor Jabbour and Council Members Flint, Kelley, Peterson and Sansevere. <br />Staff present: City Administrator Ron Moorse and Finance Director Tom Kuehn. <br />The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Mayor Jabbour. Mayor Jabbour indicated the <br />purpose of the Truth In Taxation hearing was to provide an opportunity for citizens to obtain <br />information about the proposed 2000 Budget and Tax Levy. Mayor Jabbour opened the hearing for <br />public comments. As there were no citizens present at the hearing, there were no public comments. <br />Mayor Jabbour closed the hearing at 7:01 p.m. <br />The Council was provided information summarizing the proposed 2000 Budget and Tax Levy. The <br />proposed property tax levy for 2000 is $2,363,500. This is an increase of $71,680 or 3.13% over the <br />1999 levy. <br />Kelley asked if staff had year-to-date expenditure and revenue information for 1999. Kuehn <br />indicated he is estimating General Fund revenues to be approximately $120,000 over the budgeted <br />amount. Kuehn indicated the year-to-date expenditures have not been determined at this time. <br />Kelley indicated it is important that staff develop some method for more closely monitoring year-to- <br />date expenditures and revenues. <br />Mayor Jabbour indicated that if the consolidation of the Cities of Orono and Long Lake moves <br />forward, there is significant funding available from the State for costs related to implementing the <br />merger. <br />Mayor Jabbour announced that the levy adoption hearing will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, <br />December 13,1999. <br />The meeting was adjourned at 7:10 p.m. <br />ATTEST:Gabriel Jabbour, Mayor <br />Linda S.
