The properties are located along Old Long
Lake Road and East Long Lake Road near the east shore of Long Lake as shown on Figure 1.
The area consists of ten residential units and a City of Orono park. All residences are served by
on-site septic systems. The City Park has no sewer system and is currently served by out houses.
Current City records indicate the follow ing septic system status for the ten residential units.
• 3 units Failing systems
• 2 units Non-compliant systems
• 4 units Compliant systems
• 1 unit Compliance unknown
The units with failing systems have no alternate septic sites existing on the property.
Two sanitary sewer options were studied as part of this report. The first option is a gravity sewer
system as shown on Figure 2. The gravity sewer would be installed in the roadway and will
require the complete street reconstruction. Flows will be routed to a lift station that will be
constructed on the City Park property near the existing parking lot. Flows would be then be
pumped from the lift station to an existing manhole on Old Long Lake Road in the City of Long
Lake. The property identified as # 6 on Figure 2 would need to be served by a grinder pump due
to the low elevation of the home. All other properties would be served by gravity. The street
would be restored to its original grade and section. Disturbed lawns would be regraded and
restored with sod.
The second option is to install a pressure sewer system to serve all eleven properties as shown on
Figure 3. With this option a small diameter (2 ”-3") forcemain would be installed along the edge
of the roadways. The fc-cemain would outlet into an existing manhole on Old Long Lake Road
in the City of Long Lr. j. Indiv.Jual grinder pumps would be required to serve each of the
eleven propeities. Services would be extended from the common forcemain to the property lines
at a location determined by the property owner. Property owners would be responsible for the
cost of the sewer installation between the sewer stub at their property line and their home. AH
disturbed areas would be restored as part of the project cost. This option would require minimal
2335 West Highway 36 ■ St. Paul. MN 55113 • 651*636-4600 ■ Fax; 651-636-1311
