« • <br />To give a brief review, the following are some support serv ices the school liaison officer had <br />provided: <br />■ Physical presence in the school buildings and grounds. <br />■ Investigating crimes committed on school property and school buses. <br />■ Attends school activities such as sporting events, dances, etc. <br />■ Attends classes at teacher's requests and talks to students on various law enforcement <br />subjects. <br />■ On request of school officials, counsels students on behavior problems that may border <br />on criminal activity or who have committed violations needing tollow-up. <br />■ Meets with students and parents on law enforcement matters. <br />■ Provides a liaison between schools and the juvenile court system <br />■ Handles a local juvenile diversions programs-such as Family Conferencing, etc. <br />■ Attends community/school meetings and serves on the boards of those community <br />groups. <br />■ Creates a rapport between law enforcement and students. This allows the students to get <br />to know the police officer and develop a relationship that provides an atmosphere <br />allowing them to feel more comfortable in coming to an officer with problems. <br />■ Wor'^s with the school administration, psychologists, counselors and teachers to assure <br />'he best for the students. <br />■ Speaks to community groups such as the chamber of commerce about the school liaison <br />program. <br />Additionally, to provide insight in what the liaison officer has accomplished during the past year, <br />the following are school juvenile crimes and violations investigated in 1998: <br />Assaults <br />Burglary <br />Terrorist Threats <br />Auto Theft <br />Fleeing Police <br />Theft of Property <br />Criminal Damage to Property <br />Minor Consuming <br />Possession of Marijuana <br />Tamper with Motor Vehicle <br />Trespass <br />Runaway <br />Curfew <br />Obstruct Legal Process- <br />(Resisting Arrest) <br />Disorderly Conduct <br />Fireworks <br />6 <br />1 <br />3 <br />3 <br />2 <br />7 <br />14 <br />20 <br />3 <br />-7 <br />7 <br />6 <br />18 <br />4 <br />6 <br />I <br />Total 103 Cases
