L Continue to allow rural residential land use in the interim. Such <br />use must be subject to strict enforcement of all performance standards <br />and the explicit understanding that the City will never be able to <br />provide even basic public services. <br />Maintain the natural, seasonal recreational character of the <br />island. <br />Provide at least a minimum level of emergency access to the <br />island. <br />Avoid or minimize future problems on the island in relation to <br />sanitation, safety, fire protection, erosion, etc. <br />Big Island Policies: <br />Kxisting RS District controls on development and land use will be <br />strictly enforced, and reinforced where necessary, to avoid <br />potential problems related to sanitation, public safety and security', fire <br />protection, etc. <br />The City will encourage private landowners of island properties <br />to protect their shorelines from erosion. <br />The City will define specific approved access locations for <br />individual inland Record Lots, and will establish policies <br />regulating vehicular use of the undeveloped roadways. <br />Peering Island <br />Peering Island is a small (approximately 4-5 acresl privately owned island in <br />West Arm Bav. constituting a single tax parcel and havin g a single ONVTicr. <br />Many of the same issues, goals and policies pertaining to Big Island carry <br />over to Peering Island. <br />CMP 3B - 44
