DISCUSSION OF COMMITTEE GROUND RULES <br />Childs distributed a list outlining the following committee ground rules: <br />- We agree that it is essential for all members to be heard and understood. <br />- We agree that any recommendation of the committee should provide for mutual <br />benefit of the communities. <br />- We agree that building consensus requires a climate of trust and mutual respect <br />- We agree to respect each other's time and commitment to the process. <br />- We agree ,o ha\e fun together. <br />5. DISCUSSION OF DEVELOPMENT AND LAND USE ISSUES <br />Prosser addressed the Consolidation Ccirjnittcc regarding die issues surrounding <br />development and land use as it will affect the two communities toda\ and in the fiiturc. <br />The first area of topic w as an overview of dev elopment dealing with the issues of how Long <br />Lake and Orono will grow, what implications the merger will have on growth and <br />development, and what other issues fall into development and land use. <br />PiojSci commented that some of die issues relating to dev elopment w ill encompass <br />redevelopment of the existing residential areas, new uses for undeveloped areas, new <br />streets, ieid parks. <br />Murphy commented that in his v iew merger will have a positive affect on growth and <br />development, and that the Committee should define what growth will entail for the two <br />cities <br />Rapp stated in his view giowth means to grow in numbers <br />Prosser stated that growth is an important issue that the Committee will need to cover <br />indepth. <br />Christensen commented that the two cities cannot limit growth <br />Peterson stated that legally or realistically government cannot restrict gro.vih.
