by the City of Mound. The end result is that these 638 watercraft are documented in the
riparian storage ciassification count rather than the multipie dock storage classification
count.
Appendix D highlights residences that had docks with 3 boats, 4 boats, and empty slips.
In 1999, there were 279 residences that had 3 boats stored at the dock, there were 168
residences that had 4 boats stored at the dock, and there were 409 empty slips. At the
residences with 3 and 4 boats, there was no distinction between restricted and
unrestricted watercraft.
SUMMARY OF HISTORICAL SHORELINE COUNTS
Appendix E highlights historical shoreline storage counts from 1971 to 1999. Watercraft
identified in these historical counts ranged from a low of 5,245 in 1971 to a high of
10,475 in 1996.
CONCLUSIONS /TRENDS
Based on LMCD staff review of the data collected from the 1999 shoreline survey, the
following conclusionsArends have been observed;
• The data collected in 1999 appears to corroborate the data collected in 1998.
• There apperrs to be a leveling off of personal watercraft (PWC) stored on
Lake Minnetonka. The figure of 644 in 1998 compares to 639 in 1999.
• There appears to be a decrease in cruisers stored on the lake. The figure of
1,917 in 1998 has decreased to 1,692 in 1999, a 17 % decrease. This could
be attributed to the difficulty, at times, in distinguishing between a cruiser and
a runabout. This appears to be substantiated with a 14 % increase in 1999
from 1998 in the storage of runabouts. There were 3,269 runabouts
inventoried in 1998 compared to 3,788 in 1999.
• There appears to be a leveling off of sailboats stored on Lake Minnetonka.
The figure of 720 in 1998 compares to 719 in 1999.
• There appears to be a slight increase in fishing boats stored on Lake
Minnetonka. In 1998 there were 732 and In 1999 there were 785, a 7%
iiicrease.
• There were several residences on Lake Minnetonka that had 3 and 4 boats
stored at their docks, 447. Future inventories should distinguish between
restricted and unrestricted watercraft at these residences.
• There were several residences that had empty slips identified at their docks,
409. Although empty slips have not been factored in past Reports on the total
number of boats stored on Lake Minnetonka, it might be valid to include them
in future Reports.
