It has corAe to our attention as eAiployees
of W.S.I. industries of Long Lake,Minnesota that we could be soon to
lose our jobs. W.S.I purchased Taurus Numeric Tool Inc. of
Osseo,Minnesota as announced on February 16(1999. They also entered a
P'urchase agrreerrient for acquiring Bowffian Tool and Machining Inc. of
Rochester(Minnesota announced on June 28,1999 which they announced was
finalized on August 9,1999. On April 11,1999 W.S.I. entered a new
contract with its' employees with an expiration date of April 10,2002.
At contract negotiations there was no wiention of closing the Long Lake
plant or the purchase of Bowman Tool. On August 16,1999 W.S I. placed
a notice on the bulletin board that they may transfer all of the work
T rorA the Long Lake p'lant to the plants in Rochester and Osseo ’ hus
closing the Long Lake plant. This would affect approximately 83
P'eop‘le,ly of whom are laid off. We have efAp<loyees who have wc*rked here
from 2 years to 40 years, with active emp«loyees with at least 12 years
of service. Effective March 2,1992 all shop.employees took a 105t cut
in wages which was restored on October 11,1993 and the negotiated 2.2?t
increase due on October 11,1992,they patiently waited until October
11,1993 to receive, to aid the comp<any through a hard period. On Ap<ril
13,1992 the announcerrient was made to close the Covina, Cal if ornia
facility. On June 30,1993 W.S.I. sold Advanced Custom Molders in Texas
another company it owned. On June 27,1994 the announcement was made to
close the OwatC'nna,Minnesota facility. Through all of this the Long
Lake plant has remained op*en and it has financed all of these
purchases. We don't believe this is a good t<usiness decision to close
Long Lake and move the work to Osseo and Rochester. We have all bought
or built houses and have families in the surrounding communities of
Long Lake,Spring Park.Mound,Watertown, Maple
Plain,Plymouth,Winsted,Waverly,Wayzata,Howard Lake,Montrose,
Delano,Rock ford,Annandale and Buffalo to name some of them. We are
asking for your support to keep the Long Lake plant open and keep us
at work. We would t>e extremely greatful if you could send a response
to: Attn: Shop Committee
Care of W.S.I. Industries
2605 West Wayzata Boulevard
Long Lake,Minnesota 553S6
Thank you very much from the shop* employees of W.'S.I. Industries at
Lon*g Lake.
