Well and Pump Maintenance
2.
3.
The following well and pump maintenance program is recommended:
I. Remove and inspect the pump components, including the motor. Replace or rebuild components as
necessary.
Inspect the well by downhole camera.
Based on the initial inspection, the following well maintenance measures may be appropriate:
a. Repair suspected mechanical problems near the top of the w'ell and / or add a vent to the
outer casing.
b. Clean the casing by wire brushing. A stiff brush made of steel cable ends and heavy
weights is worked up and down in intervals by a drill rig to clean well casings.
c. Clean the screen and gravel pack by methods s"''!i as iugh velocity water jetting, air lifting,
and chemical treatment.
The well should be re-televised after casing and screen cleaning.
Re-installation of the pump and motor.
Pump to waste until the water clears.
Water quality testing as appropriate.
4.
5.
6.
7.
Buslgst
The construction cost of well and pump maintenance is expected to be in the range of $25,000 to $50,000.
Costs can be better defined after the pump has been removed and the pump components and well are
inspected. For budget purposes, we have assumed that the casing and screen are in ge -ally sound
condition. Due to the anticipated project costs, procurement should follow standard City bidding
procedures. Engineering and inspection costs of $7,000 are estimated. At this time, an overall budget of
$55,000 is recommended. For reference, the total project cost of the Well No. 2 rehabilitation was $36,000.
Schedule
This project could proceed as follows:
August 1999: Prepare plans and specifications
September 21,1999:
October 1,1999:
November 15,1999:
Open construction bids
Begin construction
Project completion
Please feel free to call me at (651) 604-4797 with any questions you may have on this submittal.
Sincerely,
BONESTROO, ROSENE, ANDERLDC & ASSOCIATES, INC.
John Hemming \J
cc: Greg Gappa - City of Orono
Barry Rathbun - City of Orono
