JUL-29-1993 16:12 CITY OF hlHHETONKA 612 939 8244 P.02/03 <br />\A vy Ki 11 <) M <br />piAc: <br />COUNCIL tOLlCY 1-14 <br />ENT OF STREET LIGHTING <br />EFFECTIVE DATE: March 1, 1986 <br />COUNCIL PQT.TCV DM <br />PLACEMENT OF STREET LIGHTING <br />The purpose of this directive is to set out the policy of the Citv <br />Council concerning the placement of street lighting in the city of ninn^uonjca • <br />Background <br />m <br />The City of Minnetonka provides street lighting of various types to <br />streets of vehicular and pedestrian <br />City provided street lighting is not intended for the <br />purpose of deterring criminal activity. <br />STATEMENT OF POLICY <br />Applicability <br />^is Polity is applicable to all requests for the installation of <br />street lighting to be provided by the City. <br />standard Street Lighting <br />®*^9ineer will consider the authorization of placing street <br />lights in the city only at intersections, the end of cul-de-sacs, at <br />steep hills along City streets, or the entrance to or <br />within publicly-owned parking facilities, except when the strict <br />application of such criteria would not be in the best interests of <br />residents of the city. In such instances, an alternative location <br />may be approved. <br />In some cases, power may not be available to a particular location <br />where a street light is weurranted. in these instances, the Council <br />will consider assuming some of the additional costs of the power <br />installation. The benefited property owners will normally be <br />re<pired to assume any cost over $500. Payment shall be made to the <br />City prior to the installation. Adjacent property owners are <br />generally perceived to receive the most benefit from a street light, <br />however, this will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. <br />The initial action for the placement of such lights may come from <br />City Staff who have been made aware of the need for street lights <br />which meet such criteria or upon petition from residents who are <br />interested in placement of a street light. The petition must, at a <br />minimum, contain the signatures of all property owners who would be <br />i <br />*
