REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
COUNCIL MPirriNQ
M 1 2 1999
DATE;
ITEM NO.: j
Department Approval:
Name Gregor> A. Gappa
Title Director of Public Services
Administrator Reviewed:Agenda Section:
Engineer’s Report
Item Description: Public Hearing for Fox Ridge Sewer Project
The Fox Ridge neighborhood adjacent to Brown Road South was included in the recent MUSA
expansions for sewer hot spots. We have had a neighborhood meeting with the project area residents
to discuss this project. Two options were presented to the residents. A gravity sewer option with
a municipal lift station at an estimated per unit cost of $33,800. The other option presented was a
pressure system in which each property would own and opeiate their jwti residential grinder station.
The estimated unit cost for this option is $21,100 which includes a $4,500 allowance for residents
to purchase their own grinder station.
We have discussed this project with the City of Long Lake staff and Met ro Council Eiivironmental
Services staff. The most cost effective solution is to pump the waste water north along Brown Road
to the Long Lake sewer system at the Brown Road/Watertown Road intersection. Both Long Lake
and MCES staff are agreeable with this option. This project is planned for year 2000 construction
and could be completed under one contract with the Weber Hills project. Project surv'eying and
design can be completed this year for a winter 2000 bid opening and assessment hearing.
The project area residents have submitted a petition requesting that the '’ity move forward with this
project. There are several residents along Brown Road north of the pre 't that will be adjacent to
the new force main that have expressed an interest in obtaining sewer. ^se properties are not in
the MUSA. The current City policy is to allow use of the 50 additional sev r units if the following
three criteria are met:
1. Existing residential development.
2. Non-conforming septic syi-tem.
3. No replacement septic sites available.
Our recommendation is for Council approval of the attached resolution ordering the preparation of
plans and specifications for the Fox Ridge Sewer project.
COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED:
Approval of resolution ordering preparation of plans and specifications for the installation of
municipal sanitary sew'er to serve the Fox Ridge area.
