LMCD sets
public hearing
for reducing
storage on lake
Ordinance could change so only 1
boat Is allowed per 100 feet '
of sfioreline
By Anne Wilbur
Sun Newspapers
Environment
The number of boats developments and
re-developments may store on the lake is
about to change. A public meeting will be
held to discuss a proposed
change to an ordinance
for the Lake Minnetonka
Conservation District
(LMCD) relating to boat
storage, density and mul
tiple dock facilities on
Lake Minnetonka. The
meeting is set for 7 p.m.
July 14 at Tbnka Bay City Hall.
The LMCD tabled the ordinance and
established a meeting date at its regular
meeting on June 8.
The LMCD ordinance now allows for
one boat for every 50 feet of shoreline, said
Elxecutive Director Greg Nybeck. The pro
posed amendment would allow one for
every 100 feet of shoreline for new devel
opment and re-development
Other changes to the ordinance include
how the leng^ of the shoreline is mea
sured, he said. One amendment would
only give credit for the distance between
ea<^ side of the property without taking
into account the natur^ meandering of
the shoreline.
For outlots with clusters of docks the
LMCD will be discussing a requirement
for large setbacks from adjacent side
yards, Nybeck said. It is also considering
amendments requiring the placement of
the clustered do^ toward the center of
the property.
*^e LMCD is considering changing the
*ohe per 50” amendment because shore
line for new development is becoming
more marginal and boats are getting big
ger, he said.
In other news, the LMCD reviewed the
draft' of the 20(X) LMCD budget which is
set to be adopted at its meeting on June 23
and sent to member cities on July 1.
Future LMCD meetings: 7 p.m. June
23.
