back yard out. I’d like to get a nice Oak or Maple back there instead of whatever small
weed trees are there now. In any event, we could get a couple more storms this Summer
and lose some anyway.
6)Moiind systems in front yards. Again, I refer you to the attached drav/ing provided by
the city showing possible mound sites. Not one is in anyone ’s front yard..
lyPreserve environment with grinder system. I think the answer here is no. In the
conversations I had with Bob Volkenant(Septic Contractor), Lori Freykot(Minnesota
Pollution Control Agency), and Jack Frost(Metropolitan Council), They all said that
trench(not an option for us) and Mound systems were state of the art private septic
systems. I don ’t believe the public officials can go on record as saying that septic is
better, (Bob did) but common sense would dictate that private systems spread waste
distribution out to production sights, rather than a giant waste treatment plant flushing
efiOuent as best they can treat it at one point.
8)Cost of keeping mound system compliant. I don ’t think the Cashmores realized that it is
cheaper to keep a mound system compliant than to pay annual city sewer costs. They
said that the cost to keep a mound con^liant ranges from $185-$300 every 2 years
(assuming their costs reflect pumping and inspection fees). City Sewer annual costs were
$307.40 in Greg Gappa’s letter of last Summer. So for 2 years they would be $614.80.
This means you would save anywhere from $315 to $430 every 2 years with a mound
system! Also, I noticed that the last time my septic was pumped was 1994, yet I continue
to get a condition 5 on my report (no pumping of tanks needed). I think this is due to the
3rd tank they added to my mound system which promotes additional settling.
In Summary, I think thd best thing the Cashmores said was for everyone to come to the
June 28th meeting at 7:00, and I truly hope everyone does.
I have also included the survey from last Fall done by Peter Lytle and Rob ?. I think
they are both to be commended for the work they have put in on the project so far.
2055 Webber Hills
476-1093
