called for bids for high school auditorium roof repair <br />- approved the bills as covered by vouchers 109849 through <br />110059. <br />Motion carried. Board member Maresh absent. <br />Dr. Mich stated that the groundbreaking for the new middle school <br />will be held on Wednesday, May 26, and he provided information on <br />the process that will be followed that day; that he wanted to <br />congratulate Dr. Mary Endorf, Orono Primary School Principal, on <br />being named Elementary School Principal of the Year for Minnesota; <br />that he wanted to congratulate the 10th grade students for their <br />good work on the basic skills writing test which was above the <br />State average; that on May 17 the Orono High School Annual Awards <br />Night was held and he distributed a list of the students who were <br />awarded scholarships; that on May 27 the Orono Education Fund will <br />hold a reception for the 1998-99 scholarship recipients; that he <br />wanted to thank the following people whose terms of office are <br />expiring on the Curriculum Council: Michele Kunz, Phyllis Charlton, <br />Dr. Kevin Meyer, Mary Nicoll, Susan Major, Glenn Jeffrey, student <br />representative Andy Brantingham, and District representative Kathy <br />Pommerening; that Heidi Foley, Ernie Stachowski and he would be <br />teaching a summer curriculum course June 22 - 25; that there are <br />over 1,600 registrations for summer school; that graduation will be <br />held on June 8; that June 10 is the last day of school; that June <br />11 is the Retirement/Recognition Brunch at the Lafayette Club; that <br />the Administrative Cabinet will be meeting with Phil LeBeau from <br />North Central Accreditation regarding the District's accreditation <br />process and information will be brought back to the Board; that the <br />Orono School District is one of 64 Minnesota school districts who <br />received SchoolMatch's annual "What Parents Want" award and a <br />letter of congratulations was received from Christine Jax, <br />Commissioner of Education; that an incident had taken place with <br />regard to "older" bleachers and he described the process that is <br />being followed to remedy this situation; that this evening Attorney <br />Tom Crosby, Fagre Benson, will be representing the District at the <br />Orono City Council meeting to petition for the removal of the road <br />easement that was required when the land was purchased given the <br />District use of the land; that the Facilities Committee met last <br />week regarding use of/development of playing fields, sketches will <br />be drawn up and reviewed by the Facilities Committee and the Board <br />will be updated at that time.
