MEETING <br />JUN 2 6 1999 <br />I r OHU/vg <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION <br />OF ORONO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 278 <br />HELD ON MAY 24, 1999 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Orono Independent <br />School District No. 278 was held on Monday, May 24, 1999. <br />Present; Jack Veach <br />Peg Swanson <br />Dick Lewis <br />Martha Van de Ven <br />Dave McKown <br />Thomas Mich <br />Neal Lawson <br />Board Chair John Maresh arrived while the meeting was in progress; <br />therefore Board Vice Chair Jack Veach opened the meeting. <br />UPON MOTION by Martha Van de Ven, seconded by Dick Lewis the <br />consent agenda was approved as follows: <br />approved the minutes of the May 10, 1999 regular <br />meeting; <br />accepted the resignation of Delores Nelson, Orono High <br />School teacher, effective at the end of the 1998-99 <br />school year; <br />agreed to the request and agreement related to the <br />continuation of the probationary period for <br />four(4)consecutive years with respect to a given teacher <br />and authorized the Chair and the Clerk of the Board to <br />sign said agreement; <br />approved the adoption of the following proposed science <br />texts for grades 5 and 6: <br />Publisher: Sunburst Communications <br />The Voyage of the Mimi Student Book <br />Publisher: Prentice Hall <br />From Bacteria To Plants <br />Cells and Heredity <br />Inside Earth <br />Earth's Water <br />Weather and Climate <br />Human Biology and Health <br />Chemical Building Blocks <br />Chemical Interactions <br />approved <br />football <br />$75; <br />Electricity & Magnetism <br />Motion, Forces & Energy <br />the high school athletic fees for hockey and <br />at $95 and all other athletic activities at
