n^PfrriNG REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
JUN 2 6 1999 DATE: June 28. 1999
cn Y oi- uttoj^u ITEM NO.: /3
Department Approval:
Name Gregory A. Gappa
Title Director of Public Services
Administrator Reviewed:Agenda Section:
Engineer’s Report
Item Description: No Parking Signs on Shadywood Road North of Narrows Bridge
Attached you will find a letter from a resident on Shadywood Road, County Road 19, north of the
Lake Minnetonka Narrows Bridge requesting the installation of "No Parking" signs. Cars parking
in the right turning lanes in this area are creating a traffic safety hazard. Residents have stated
in phone conversations that most of the problem is from users of the Pheasant Lawn Joint Dock
complex. Dock users are parking along County Road 19. There is only one parking space
available per dock, with the extra cars parking along the highway. Historically parking has not
been a problem, but over the past several years has become a problem with cars parked along both
sides of County Road 19.
We have reviewed this situation and support the resident's concerns. The Orono Police Chief also
supports the installation of no parking signs in this area. This issue has also been discussed with
Hennepin County. The County also recognizes that a safety hazard exists and will install "No
Parking" signs if requested by the City.
We are recommending approval of the attached resolution requesting that Hennepin County install
"No Parking" signs on County Road 19, north of the Lake Minnetonka Narrows Bridge.
COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED:
Motion to approve resolution requesting that Hennepin County install "No Parking" signs on
County Road 19, north of the Lake Minnetonka Narrows Bridge.
