Jay Nygard - continued <br />Nygard said he has been curious about some of the commercial development, but he hasn’t <br />attended any of the meetings and he did not think it would be appropriate to comment on it. He <br />feels that, generally, the City has done a good job with commercial development. <br />Kelley a«;ked if Nygard has enough time to commit to the Planning Commission. <br />Nygard said he is a stay-at-home dad and he would be able to attend the meetings. <br />Peterson said Nygard mentioned the possibility of Long Lake and Orono merging. She asked <br />what he feels will be the hardest task for the two cities to agree upon. <br />Nygard said the name will probably the hardest task. He said he remembers when residents of the <br />two cities did not get along and he feels it is time for the two cities to consolidate. <br />Jabbour told Nygard that five people applied for two positions on the Planning Commission. He <br />does not want Nygard to be discouraged from volunteering if he is not appointed to the Planning <br />Commission. <br />2. Jim Bull, Jr. <br />Jabbour asked why Bull would like to be on the Planning Commission and if he has looked at the <br />Comprehensive Plan. <br />Bull said he would like to be on the Planning Commission because he views it as a way to help <br />the community. He feels his skills and abil ties would fit the Planning Commission. In his job, he <br />goes in and assesses situations for businesses, helps them find out what they need and helps them <br />find solutions. In that process, he applies rules. He said this is similar to what the Planning <br />Commission and Council do. He said the Council and Planning Commission are faced with <br />challenges by citizens wanting to do things and the community growing and developing and <br />trying to find a way to work that in to the health, safety and aesthetics that we want for <br />development. He has not looked at the Comprehensive Plan. He said one of his first duties as <br />commissioner would be to acquaint himself with the short and long-term planning of the City <br />and the rules that would be applied. <br />Kelley asked why he decided to live in the Orono area. <br />Bull said he has friends in the area and he likes the people and the neighborhood culture. <br />Jabbour asked what he thinks about the way the City has developed, what he likes and dislikes.
