REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
COUNCIL MEETING
MAY \ 0 1999
CITY Uh UnuiNU__________
Date: May 7,1999
Item No.:
Department Approval:
Name: Michael P. Gaf!ron;^V
Title: Senior Planning Coordinator
Administrator Approval:Agenda Section:
Zoning
Item Description: Extend LR-lC-1 Moratorium or Allow to Expire
Ordinance #175, 2nd Series, adopted May 11, 1998 established a 190-day moratorium on the
granting of applications which would make use of the LR-lC-1 50% increase in dwelling unit
density. That moratorium was extended on November 9, 1998 and will expire May 15, 1999 unless
Council renews it on May 10. The moratorium can be extended an additional 180 days, which
would yield a total moratorium length of 18 months, the maximum allowed by statute.
Earlier this year Council reviewed the Planning Commission recommendation and information
supplied by staff, and concluded that the impact of the proposed LR-lC-1 50% density credit
elimination was minimal due to the number of properties affected. Council at that time chose to take
no action on the amendment.
COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED
Adopt a 6-month extension to the moratorium established in Ordinance #180, 2nd Series per the
attached Ordinance, or choose to let the current moratorium expire.
