O n1 {^tOSi-nriTET\''Ci» <br />PROTECT OUR LAKES AND WETLANDS <br />Simple lawn practices to keep our waters clear and healthy <br />Choose phosphorus free fertilizer for established lawns. Minnesota soils are <br />naturally rich in phosphorus. Excess phosphorus running into lakes causes <br />algae blooms that turn the lake green. Look for lawn fertilizers with a middle <br />number of 0 (phosphorus-free) at area nurseries. <br />Leave grass clipping on your lawn - they provide valuable nutrients.... equal to <br />one application of fertilizer per year. <br />Never rake leaves or grass clippings towards lakes, streams or wetlands. <br />Monitor irrigation practices to avoid runoff from over saturation. <br />Aerate or dethatch your lawn, every other fall, to prevent soil compaction and <br />promote a healthy root system. <br />Seed or plant bare spots to help prevent soil erosion.
