1964 Pirk Avenue
Long Lake, MN. 55356
t-
April 13, low
Orono City Council Members
Long Lake City Council Members
Medina City Council Members
Dear Sir or Madam:
Greetings!
During the first quarter of 1999, the Long Lake Volunteer Fire Department was as busy as ever. I
have attached a spreadsheet outlining where we spent a good portion of our time.
One item not listed on the recap is a program we recently started called ALERT. Through a
generous contribution firom First Alert, we are now able to offer smdce detectors to Guests in our Fire
Service Area firec of charge While our main goal is to give the detectors to those who may
otherwise not be able to afford them, vrt will certainly give them to anyone who asks. As a way to
promote the program, we communicated the program through the City newsletters. In addition, we
gave the Fire Departments of Maple Plain, Wayzata and Mound SO detectors each to hand out to their
Fire Service Guests.
Some upcoming herns that I would like to inform you about include:
Home Safety—as a way to prevent emergencies, the Team will be developing a new prog
where, as requested, we will visit people’s homes and provide them with safety tips and
suggestions.
r'.'ii
House Numbering — We will be moving forward with an aggressive program aimed at
getting Guests in the fire service area to get address numbers. To support this program, we
will be working to develop a partnership with a manufocturer to secxire number^g that can be
placed onto mailboxes. When appropriate, we will give Guests numbers for their mailboxes
fi-ee of charge.
Community Night Out — During June, we plan on taking all of our vdiicles out into different
areas of the Community and simply spend time with our Guests. This will be a good time to
share information about the Fire Department and our programs.
Thank you, in advance, for your continued pailnership.
Sincerely,
k’
Steve Persian
Fire Chie^ Long Lake Vohmteer Fire Department
T • '
Prevention Through ConunurdtybUeriKtion j
jihniiu
