Request for Council Action continued
Page 2
April 22, 1999
Long Lake Fire Department Capital Expenditure Plan
The two main capital items are the replacement of the heavy rescue vehicle, which will be 30 years
old in 2002, at a cost of $175,000; and the replacement of Engine No. 13, the number three engine,
which will be 30 years old in 2004, at a cost of $350,000. Both of these cost amounts are in today’s
dollars. Chief Persian indicates the date of the replacement of the heavy rescue vehicle is flexible,
but the date of replacement of Engine No. 13 needs to be firm.
Minor Capital Outlay to be Funded Through Sources Other Than Cities
The Fifteen Year Capital Outlay Plan includes $254,000 of minor capital outlay items, $100,000 of
which is earmarked for new fire station items. All of these items will be funded through the Fire
Department's efforts rather than through funding from the contract cities.
New Fire Station
The Fifteen Year Capital Outlay Plan does not include expenditures related to the replacement of
the Long Lake Fire Station. It is not clear at this time what the cost of the fire station will be and
what portion of that cost will be funded by Mn/DOT.
COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED:
Motion to approve/deny the Long Lake Fire Department Capital Outlay request for 1999 of which
the City of Orono's share is $26,600, and if approved to authorize a budget adjustment to reflect the
$26,600 expenditure fi'om the Improvement and Equipment Outlay Fund.
1 iT«i.
