iiy .f
March 16,1999
ANDERSON-JOHNSON
ASSOCIATES,
INC.
Landscape Architecture • Site Planning •
Elizabeth Van Zomeren
City Planner/Zoning Administrator
City of Orono
P.O. Box 66
Orono, MN 55323 RSCSIVED
RE: Proposed New Orono Middle School
Reconstmction of Orono High School
Orono, Minnesota
MAR 1 8 1999
Cl IV u.- OnOiVO
Dear Liz:
As a quick response to some of the issues raised by your consultants in their review of the School
District’s CUP submission, we offer the following comments:
BRA Associates letter dated March 15.1999
1.Access - Pedestrian crossings will be provided at the street crossings along Old Cr>'stal
Bay Road at the north and south intersections of the two school entrances. Likewise,
crosswalks will be painted at curb-cuts, pedestrian crossings, etc. at the proposed City
trail, building entrances, and the like.
2.Sanitary Sewer - Proposed sanitary sewer for the middle school will be designed as a
gravity feed to the existing manhole in Old Crystal Bay Road. Unfortunately, we
incorrectly labeled the inverts of the sanitar>' pipe as it exits the building and enters the
e.xisting sanitary sewer structure. The correct invert for the building service (BSl) should
be 1018.0 (5* below finished floor elevation). The invert at MH2 will be 1017.85 with 6"
PVC pipe sloping at 0.5% for the 555-foot run to the existing manhole (MHl). The new
invert will be 1015.07. Sanitary manhole castings will be per City standard (1642B).
3.Water Main - The connection of the proposed 12-inch DIP to the existing stub under Old
Crystal Bay Rd. will be by an open cut. The street will be restored per the City’s
requirements for typical compaction, street pavement section, etc. Regarding hydrant
spacing, we are waiting the Fire Marshall’s review, however, we appreciate Mr.
Kellogg’s comments regarding the hydrant spacing at the front of the building.
4.Storm Sewer - We will specify that storm sewer pipe below all paved areas and above 15
inch diameter to be reinforced concrete pipe. Pipe in grassed areas and 12" diameter and
smaller will be RCP or PVC (contractors option). Calculations and associated drainage
sketches will be provided for the proposed stomi sewer system.
VALLEY SQUARE OFFICE CENTER • SUITE 200 • 7575 GOLDEN VALLEY ROAD • MINNEAPOLIS.
