INC.®003/005
I ANDSCAPINGi
Miririle School
Th0 Landscspe Plan for th© area around the new Middle School proposes planting
thirty new (2 Va inch caliper) shade trees along Crystal Bay Road, at both vehicular
entrances, and at the east end of the event lot. These shade trees are to be spaced
40 to 50 feet apart. The Landscape Plan also proposes planting twelve Spring
Snow Crabapple trees and 105 evergreen shrubs at the two entrances. The
Landscape Plan includes only six trees in the parking islands. It does not include
trees along the west drop off walk, the large island between the parking lot and the
school, along the west edge of the main parking area, along the north side of the
event lot, along the walk around the school or around the new wetland and pond.
The proposed Landscaping Concept is generally appropriate for the size and
intensity of the facility. However, the addition of many more trees will be
necessary to adequately landscape this large campus and to make it an
aesthetically Inviting part of the community.
We recommend that additional shade trees {2 Yz inch caliper) be planted (50 feet
apart) along the west drop off walk from the southern cross walk to the northern
building entrance, in the large parking island, along the entire western edge of the
parking lot and drive, and along the northern drop off walk. We also recommend
that additional shade, ornamental and evergreen trees be planted in groupings
around the new pond and wetland, and along the walk around the school.
High School
The Landscape Plan proposes planting fourteen new (2 Vz inch caliper) shade trees
and machine moving ten (6 to 8 inch) ash trees to locations between the new
parking lots and the High School. Most of these shade trees are to be spaced 50
feet apart. Much of the existing landscaping In the boulevards and.around the
school will remain in place. Considering the existing landscaping to remain, the
proposed landscaping is generally adequate and appropriate for the size and type of
facility with the following qualifications.
The High School site removal plan indicates relocating approxirnately
eighteen deciduous and evergreen trees 4 to 10 inches. The Middle School
and High School Landscape Plan indicates machine transplanting ten 6 to 8
inch ash to the island between the new east lot and the school. The new
locations of the other eight relocated trees needs to bo clarified. The
removal plan also shows the removal of twelve 10 to 16 inch ash east of the
existing High School Parking lot. Approximately eight of these larger trees
may be In good enough condition to try moving them with a larger curved
spade (108 inch if available).
1
-J-
