to: City of Orono From; Mark C Karan CuCC 6 (612) 471*9795 02/08/99 20:13:33 Pg 1 oC 1
Feb. 8,1999
City of Orono
2750 Kelly Parkway
Orono, MN 55356
Dear Council Members,
This letter is in response to the memo that I received about a public hearing notice in reference to the
proposed revision to the Orono Zoning Code Section 10.26, subdivision 3 regarding tlie LR-lC-1 One
Family Lakeshore Residential Subdistrict. I will not be able to attend this public hearing on Feb. 16th.
Orono should reverse the decrease in dwelling unit dcmiiy th.at it had previously passed. 1 live in the
Navarre area and most all of the lots are between 50 to 100 feet in width. Tliis area has a problem with
hard cover and drainage due to the amount of homes, garages, driveways, decks and other structures
on each property. This is something that 1 would not want to happen in other ar'as around the lake. It's
much less exijeasive for all involved to pre^•ent the situation before it happens than after t!ie fact.
.Another factor in tliis is having your neiglibors too close to each other. You don't feel that you can
entertain company in the warm montlis outside with out up*setting \ our neighbors. Tlie additional
noise from talking, children playing, and lack of additional parking for guests does annoy neighbors.
How many of these area have adequate space for well water and septic? Would additional hard cover
effect tlie erosion of property and cause additional pollution of the lake? If people feel that they have
lost part of their investment because they can not sub*di\’ide in the ftiture. they shoulu have purchased
fann land away from the lake area years ago. That’s \>here the high der/i>ty iend developments belong,
not in the lake area.
With this being "Tlie Lake Minnetonka .Area" it should remain a .suburban setting, not something
that's turned into an area like Plymouth.
I hope this has helped in your decision to keep our community in the setting that this area has been
known for in the years gone by. " Large Open Spaces" for your familv' to grow up in.
Sincerely..• •
Karen Cuff
3572 Livingston .Ave
Orono. MN 55391
471-9795
i
I
