REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
COUNCIL MEETING
MAR 6 1999
Date: March 3, 1999
Cl lY OF OrtONO Item No: IX.
Department Approval:Administrator Reviewed:Agenda Section:
Name: Gary Cheswick
Title:Chief of Police
Item Description: Acquisition of Survivalink Defibrillators
Exhibits: Specification Sheet on Survivalink
DISCUSSION
The Orono Police Department is requesting formal permission to accept the donation of
three Survivalink defibrillator which are replacement units for two obsolete units previously
used. Survivalink was picked from three available vendors for the following reasons:
► Affordable - $2105.00 each (State bid price)
► Maintenance free - 5 year battery plus self-calibration
► Ease of use - lightweight and simple to operate
► Recommended by North Memorial Hospital which provides refresher training on its use
The Police Department currently carries one defibrillator in the main Orono car with the
second in the Spring Park patrol unit, and a third is assigned to the Long Lake squad.
If funds can be made available, I would like to purchase two additional units. The fourth
defibrillator would be assigned to the shift supervisors car. The fifth would be kept at the office
for internal use (we have had "walk-in's with medical problems) or during special events that are
attended by trained department personnel (i.e. Security at Com Days, Buckhom Days, the Easy
Race, etc.)
COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED
Formally accept donation, and purchase of two (2) Survivalink automated external
defibrillators for total cost of $4,210.00; and to amend the 1999 budget to reflect the expenditure.
1
-I
