ADULT ENTERTAINMENT STUDY SUMMARY <br />CITY, DATE:Phoenix, 1979 <br />TYPE OF STUDY: Compared 3 study areas to 3 control areas <br />TYPES OF BUSINESSES: No definition given <br />DESCRIPTION OF BUSINESS LOCATIONS: <br />Study Area 1:4 adult businesses less than 1000 feet away from each <br />other & less than 500 feet from residential <br />Study Area 2 & 3: 1 adult use each <br />FINDINGS: <br />1. 40% more property crimes in study areas than control areas. <br />2.6 times the sex crime rate in study areas than in control areas. The <br />majority of sex crimes are indecent exposure. Excluding indecent <br />exposure, the sex crimes were still 3.5 times greater in Area 1 than its <br />control area, and more than 1.5 times greater in Areas 2 and 3 than their <br />control areas. <br />3.89% of the reported indecent exposure crimes in Study Area 1 were <br />committed at the addresses of adult businesses. <br />4.Higher number of sex crimes where there is a concentration of adult <br />businesses: 84 more sex crimes in Study Area 1 than Area 2 and 56 <br />more than Area 3. <br />5. Higher number of sex crimes compared to control areas: 11 times as <br />great in Area 1, 4 times in Area 2, and 3 times in Area 3. <br />EXISTING REGULATIONS: <br />1. Distance between each other: 1000 feet <br />2. Distance between adult use and school or residential zone: 500 feet <br />3.
