Box 66 <br />Crystal Bay, MN 55323 <br />Dear Mayor Jabbour. <br />In 1999, the City of Orono responded to our request to issue a Housing Week <br />proclamation in an effort to increase awareness around the issue of affordable housing. <br />A belated thank-you for your involvement and support of that effort. The purpose of this <br />letter Is to Invite the City to again participate In a community initiative to raise awareness <br />about local housing issues by proclaiming the week of November 11-18 ■ 2000 <br />“Housing Week" In the City of Orono. <br />Background <br />As you know, Interfaith Outreach and Community Partners serves low and moderate <br />income households in Plymouth, Wayzata, Long Lake. Orono, Medina, Minnetonka <br />Beach, Medicine Lake, and Hamel. lOCP has collaborated with several community <br />partners in the formation of a Community Housing Coalition to provide support and <br />direction for the preservation and development of affordable housing in this community. <br />One of the functions of the Community Housing Coalition Is to raise community <br />awareness and support for increased housing opportunities for low-income families In <br />the community. To this end, lOCP, along with several local congregations, will be <br />observing the week of November 11 - 18 as “Housing Week". <br />Calendar <br />Housing week will be launched on November 11”’ with Bob Fisher ’s fifth annual Sleep- <br />Out. Bob will be sleeping outside to raise funds to address and prevent homelessness <br />in the community. A community-wide kick-off will take place 5:00-7:00 pm on the^500 <br />block of Lake Street in downtown Wayzata. The kick-off will include a “soup line" dinner <br />and a short program. We are hopeful that we will have significant media coverage <br />including television news, radio news and Interviews, and newspaper coverage. <br />On November 12*^, several leaders in the faith community will deliver messages from <br />the pulpit about affordable housing issues. Many of these congregations will also be <br />taking a special offering to raise funds that will seed some exciting new housing <br />Initiatives in the comiriunity. <br />Several youth groups from churches in Wayzata. Plymouth and Long Lake will also be <br />sleeping out the night of November 11*^. each in their respective churchyards. <br />Other community events during housing week include the Gleason Lake Home Base <br />Big Kid’s Sleep-Out on Friday, November 10*^ in front of the Wayzata fire station, and a <br />community prayer breakfast on Tuesday, November 2"*^ at 7:00 a.m. at Wayzata <br />Country Club.
