Box 66
Crystal Bay, MN 55323-0066
Dear Mayor Jabbour:
The City of Chanhassen has been working diligently oyer the past six to nine months to
deal with complicated issues concerning affordable housing. We haye had many
meetings with consultants, experts, and Metropolitan Council staff regarding the nuances
of this issue. It became eyident early on that with an issue as complicated as this, it
would be extremely difficult for our elected officials, as lay people, to understand the
twists and turns of affordable housing, liyable communities, and smart growth. To that
end, 1 extended an invitation to the Metropolitan Council and Minnesota Housing
Finance Agency to come to the City of Chanhassen and participate with us in a “back to
school night ” to bring staff and elected officials alike up to speed on these difficult
issues.
At the same time, as these housing issues are largely regional in nature, I thought it
prudent and appropriate to inyite you, as our neighbors, to participate with us in this
educational opportunity. To that end, I would like to extend to you an inyitation to join
us on Monday, .March 20 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Chanhassen Recreation
Center, Room 4 in a discussion on affordable housing issues. Besides Chanhassen
elected and appointed officials, Mr. Tom McElyyn and Mr. Guy Peterson of the
Metropolitan Council, and Ms. Kit Hadley of the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency
will be present to make a presentation on the topic and to engage the participants in
discussion in an informal setting regarding these issues.
We would welcome your participation with us at this eyent. In order to get a better idea
of the number of attendees, please RSVP to Karen Engelhardt, City of Chanhassen at
937-1900 ext. 104 on or before March 10,2000. Additionally, when you RSVP, please
identify for us who will be attending and what their position is with your organization.
Please contact me directly if you have any questions.
Sincerel
Scott A.
