ORONO CITY COUNCIL MEETINO MINUTES FOR MARCH 22,1999 (#2495 Robert Erickson, continued) There were no public comments. It is the recommendation of City Staff and the Planning Commission that application be approved based on the conditions contained in the March 17.1999 Sta^^port. Mayor Jabbour commented that the City is not in a position at this t|fhe to vacate a portion of the public roadway to the shoreline and that it should be City policy lake access lanes not be vacated, Peterson remarked she has a problem with approving tw^on-conforming lots. Gaffron stated that this application will improve the of^nt situation in that area. Sansevere suggested that signage be erected t^how that there is a public access there. Cronin stated he is aware of the need to k^ that roadway open for public use and the Applicants are willing to work with City Staff on thivl^ue. Cronin indicated that no work would be done on this area until construction is commen( Flint inquired whether the two \oj/coM be combined to create one conforming lot. Gaffron stated one of the radons Staff supports this application is because the lot line rearrangement vrill not increase density Ji^is area. Flint stated he woutd^ in agreement with this application if public access to the lake is provided. Sansevere inqukwl whether City Staff has explored any other options for these parcels. Weinberge^ated Staff has looked at other options but feel that this proposal best meets both parties'i^ls. noting that it is easier to work with lots that are squared off more evenly. in stated they have looked at other options but feel this arrangement works the best. iansevere commented he would support this proposal. Sansevere moved, Flint seconded, to approve Application #2465,364 and 372 Westlake Street, granting of a lot line rearrangement subject to the conditions outlined in the March 17,1999 Staff report VOTE: Ayes 4, Nays 0. (#2) PRESENTATION BY SCOTT THOMAS - CANDIDATE FOR MEMBER OF MCWD BOARD OF MANAGERS Thomas addressed the City Council and requested their support of him as a candidate for the MCWD Board of Managers. Thomas stated he is a civil engineer with 20 years experience and has a good understanding of the watershed process. Thomas stated if elected to '.he MCWD Board of Managers his goals would be to. #1. identify the resources in the watershed district clearly and to list the expectations of the resources for the watershed district; #2. shift the focus of the board away from the day-to-operations; and #3. predict the future needs of the watershed district by looking at a 20 year window.
