D
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
DATE: October 4, 1994
ITEM NO.: JQ
Department Approval:
Name Michael A. Gaffiroo
Title Asst. Planning & Zoning Administrator
Administrator Reviewed:Agenda Section:
Zoning
Item Description: #1964 Calvary Memorial Church, 2420 Dunwoody Avenue - Variance
Resolution
Zoning District: LR-IC, Single Family Lakeshore Residential, 1/2 acre.
Application: Request for variances for proposed additional sign.
List of Exhibits
A - Resolution
B - Notice of Planning Commission Action 9/22/94
C - Memo and Exhibits of 9/12/94
Please review the memo and exhibits of September 12th. Briefly, applicants propose to locate
a 45 s.f. wall sign facing Shoreline Drive to advertise the Christian School. The variances
required include:
square footage for an individual sign (12 s.f. allowed, 45 s.f. proposed)
- site signage square footage (24 s.f. allowed, 148 s.f. proposed)
maximum height of sign will be approximately 9’ (8’ allowed).
Planning Commission reviewed this request at their September meeting and voted 4-0 to
recommend approval, noting the length of frontage on Shoreline Drive and the commercial
namre of that thoroughfare.
Please note that the September 12th memo indicated the application included a conditional use
permit amendment. Staff has reviewed the signage code and notes that since specific standards
are given for signage for conditional uses [Section 10.61, Subd. 2 (A-3)l the conditional use
permit need not be amended but a variance is necessary, therefore the resolution has been
written as merely a variance approval.
Staff Recommendation
Staff recommends approval per the Planning Commission recommendation. A resolution for
approval is attached.
