The existing sign was constructed in 1956. <br />The proposed sign is 4' x 10 ’ per side and is a two sided cabinet style sign. The sign is smaller than <br />the existing sign (4* x 12'), but 28 square feet larger per side than the allowed 12 square feet per side. <br />The proposed sign will be illuminated from the inside with soft white lighting from dusk to morning <br />by a timer located within the church. The proposed sign will be located where the existing sign is <br />currently placed, due to an existing utility easement, mature trees and the contour of the properU’ <br />away from the road. There is no other signage on the property. <br />As a comparison, in 1994, Calvary Memorial Church and School located at 2420 Dunwoody Avenue <br />received a variance to allow a third sign on the property for a total of approximately 148 s.f. of <br />signage on the property. Staff report is attached as E.xhibit D. <br />The requested variance is for: <br />1. Section 10.61, Subdivision 2 (A)(3): Allows one sign for each use allowed by conditional use <br />permit - up to 12 square feet per surface. To allow 4' x 10' or 40 s.f (per side) where 12 s.f. is <br />allowed, for a two sided cabinet sign to replace a smaller existing V-board sign.
