IM <br />LAND USE <br />JUNE, 1980 <br />I AND USE GOALS AND POLICIES <br />Orono's Land Use Plan is based upon the following 9oals <br />and policies which in turn have been actively develops <br />by Orono residents over the last 25 years. <br />]frwn USg GOALS <br />1, TO BEINFORCE ORONO'S ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION COMMITMENT. <br />2.TO MAINTAIN THE HISTORIC IDENTITY AND CHARACTER OF THE SEPARATE <br />URBAN AND RURAL NEIGHBORHOODS. <br />3.»ro PROVIDE APPROPRIATE PLACES FOR A VARIETY OF LOCAL RESIDENTIAL, <br />EDUCATIONAL, RECREATIONAL, INDUSTRIAL AND NEIGHBORHOOD COMMERC <br />ACTIVITIES. <br />4. TO PROTECT NEIGHBORHOODS FROM ENCROACHMENT OF INCOMPATIBLE LAND USES <br />5. TO COORDINATE ORONO'S LAND USES WITH THAT OF NEIGHBORING COMMUNITIES. <br />6. TO COORDINATE LAND USES AND DEVELOPED ?S^pr0VIDE THEPHYSICAL CAPABILITIES OF THE CITY AND ITS CITIZENS TO PROV <br />NECESSARY PUBLIC FACILITIES AND SERVICES. <br />6ENERA1 <br />1.THE METROPOLITAN URBAN SERVICE AREA (MUSA) IS FIXED, <br />orono's Urban Service Area (MUSA) and Sewer Service <br />Area (MSSR) are fixed by this and the other elements <br />of the Community Management Plan and are legally <br />described by Resolution of the City Council as shown <br />on Map Mo. 6. <br />2.ORONO'S lAND USE PLANS WILL BE BASED UPON ENVIRON^NTAL PROTECTION <br />POLICIES. Land use and development roust assure the <br />conservation, protection and preservation of sensitive <br />environmental resources in accordance with the goals <br />and policies of the Environmental protection <br />Land use policies will encourage the wise use and <br />management of natural resources while prohibiting thei <br />misuse, abuse, overuse or exploitation. <br />CMP 4-12 <br />I <br />4
