Recommendations
We are recommending sewering this property using one of the fifty sewer units available from
the 1996 MUSA expansions Comprehensive Plan amendment. This is based on the fact that the
property is a previously developed lot that used to have a nonconforming septic system for the
existing house, which was demolished in 1996. The property is located directly adjacent to Dickey
Lake, and sewering of the property will provide a higher level of protection for Dickey Lake than
using a septic system. This property is also located in the new Comprehensive Plan MUSA
expansion area.
The 2000 connection charge for hookup to the North Long Lake sewer project is $19,380.
Connection of this property will be into a force main sewer line, so a grinder pump will be
required. The property owner will be responsible for the installation and maintenance of the
grinder pump. Connection of this property will require tapping of the force main in North Brown
Road. We are recommending that City Engineer approval be required for the sewer connection
plans and that construction inspection be required for any work in the public right of way. The
property owner will be responsible for all costs associated with the sewer connection.
COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED:
Motion to approve use of one sewer unit for connection of 809 North Brown Road to sanitary
sewer with the property owner responsible for all costs associated with the hookup, including the
connection fee for the North Long Lake sewer project, and City Engineer plan approval required.
