S -P TESTING, INC. Steven B. Schirmers — MPCA Ceit. No. 627
951 Katydid Lane NE • St. Michael, MN 55376 • (612) 497.3566
April 16, 1995
Bryson & Myers
Cluster System
Big Island
Orono, Henn. Co., MN
This On -Site Sewage Treatment System is Designed for a Type 1, two
bedroom home for each site = 600 gal/day. Each site is an actual
Type 11, two bedroom. Designed in accordance with the Minnesota
Pollution Control Agency Chapter 7080 and loyal ordinances.
This system is designed as a cluster system due to very limited
space for adequately treating septic effluent. The proposed
system is a 10"dia. graveless trench located at cabin A, the
Bryson property. Recommend an easment & maintenance agreement
be made between the 2 land owners & the City of Orono.
The soils on this site are a clay loam. A seasonally saturated
layer of soil was found at 66" to 78", (mottled soil). The bottom
of the system must be located at least 3' above the seasonally
saturated soil.
The soils at a depth of 30" have a percolation rate averaging
15.6 min/inch.
A pumping chamber will need to be installed to lift the effluent
to the treatment area.
The power supply and switches must be located outside the manhole
and pumping chamber in a weather proof enclosure. A warning device
must be installed with a light and sound device, this is in case of
a pump failure.
Due to the system being seasonally used, the ta..ks must be insulated
to prevent freezing during winter months. The accumulation of
sludge should be inspected no less frequent than every three years.
The disposal of sludge should take place whenever the top of the
sludge layer is less than 17." below the bittom of the outlet baffle
cit, why nr•:ar bottom of tho scum layer is less than 1" above the
bottom of the outlet baffle. Removal of septage shall include
complete removal of scum and sludge.
A water meter must be installed at each cabin to monitor the daily
water use.
Due to this site being the only area available for an On -Site Sewage
Treatment System, recommend to install low water use facilities,
1.6gal/flush toilets, low flow shower heads etc.
