MINUTES OF THE <br />ORONO PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING <br />Monday, November 20,2000 <br />(«2636 CARY AND SUSAN CABLE, Continued) <br />Nygard slated the Planning Commission is firm on the 15 percent structural coverage limit and <br />the 25 percent hardcover limit on new construction. <br />Cable staled they would like to keep the house in the proposed location in order to preserve the <br />existing trees. Cable stated he is doubtful whether the size of the house can be reduced any <br />further. <br />Mrs. Cable commented they have five chile , en, with some bedrooms being located above the <br />garage. <br />Hawn stated she is unsure exactly what they arc being asked to approve since they do not have a <br />plan in front of them outlining all of the items being requested. <br />Smith stated what is in front of them docs include the ice house, with the amount of hardcover <br />being in excess of the 25 percent limit. <br />Hawn stated she can either make a motion denying the application or table the matter to allow the <br />Applicant time to decide whether to keep the ice house. Hawn inquired why a building permit <br />was issued prior to the variance being approved <br />Weinberger stated a building permit was issued on the revised plan, noting that they were under <br />the 25 percent hardcover limit and met all the required setbacks. Weinberger staled the <br />Applicants are requesting the additional hardcover in order to keep the ice house and expand <br />the driveway area, along with a sidewalk. <br />Berg noted Uie plan has changed since the building permit was issued. <br />HawTi commented in her view she does not see a hardship. <br />Berg commented she also is confused by exactly wliat is being requested since there is no plan <br />outlining the changes before them <br />Lindquist stated he would be in favor of denying the variance and letting Uie building permit <br />stand. <br />Hawn stated she was in agreement with Lindquist Hawn noted the demolition permit called for <br />the ice house to be removed. <br />Mrs. Cable stated they were never informed the ice house had to be removed. <br />Gafl&on inquired whether the City had a survey at the time the demoUlioo pennit was issued <br />A gentleman in the audience indicated he does not know. <br />Lindquist moved, Hawn seconded, to recommend denial of Application 263d, 3235 Ivy <br />Place, based on the additional hardcover being requested in excess of the 25 percent limit <br />from the time the original building permit was Issued. <br />S. <br />PAGE 10
