Staff from Short Elliott <br />Hendrickson will assist with the monitoring and w ill be the authors of <br />the required annual reports. Monitoring of the replacement area will <br />be conducted for a minimum five-year period to evaluate the success <br />of the mitigation area, identify maintenance and monitoring needs, and <br />correct any identified problems. Hydrology will be monitored annually <br />at least three times between early May and August. Shallow <br />monitoring wells will be installed in all created basins and nearby <br />existing wetlands to monitor changes in hydrology over the monitoring <br />period. <br />Wetland vegetation will be both qualitatively and quantitatively <br />evaluated once per year during the period between July and August. <br />Photographs documenting the changes in vegetation will also be taken <br />at this time from fixed reference points. <br />At the end of five years, or when the monitoring data suggests the <br />replacement areas arc successful, functioning wetlands, a final <br />Minn*haha Creek Watershed District Permit Application <br />City of Orono, Minnesota <br />A-l.ONGL0204.00 <br />Page 12
