Tlie Mayor asked if any oik * wanted to <br />speak and I rose to make a conuiient, alter hearing several remarks from the <br />council. My comment was tliat I didn't believe that Uk * couiwil gave the <br />citizens of Orono enough credit to do what was riglu and consider their <br />iK*iglrbors. A conuneiU from a council member was made back to me that <br />they knew we liad a problem with our neiglibor and I responded that our <br />troubles were caused by the city. I am speaking this evening because the <br />a*sponse from the council was laugliter. I want you to know there lias been <br />nothing at all funny about what we have been e.xperiencing the last fiitecn <br />niontiis. 1 appreciate the call ofapology' from Mr. Nygard but it docs little to <br />put my mind at ease. We have been tlirealened, lauglied at, and told it would <br />have to be settled in court and the responses by some members of the city <br />stall'are very troubling. <br />At one of the many council meetings the Mayor made the statement <br />that the city does not play favorites. Now I know what other citizens mean <br />when they say the council just doesn’t get it or they just don t care. I really <br />believe tliat it is time for the Orono council to get it and start curing. Tlie <br />law suits, I know of four, in just the last few years, should be a warning sign <br />but I guess tlie council just doesn't gel it. <br />1 lK*re is absolutely no consistency in how some membet^ of the city <br />stall'apply the ordinances. I could give you any number of illustrations from <br />just a few homes close to ours but I'm here to tell you 1 don’t intend to be <br />insulted, lauglied at or lied to any longer. We liavc sustained substantial <br />damage to our home because we were ignored. When all is said and done <br />our expenses could run over $20,000.00. . <br />If our city government structure is such dial you do not liave the <br />ability or authority to inquire into the actions of city stall then in my opinion <br />it is higli lime you consider some changes. 'Ilie council approved a variance <br />for the property ne.xt door for 36 square feet of additional hard cover. In my <br />estimation there has been possibly several hundred square feet of liard cover <br />added in addition to the 36 and Mr. Oman told us that Mr. Weinberger <br />approved of this and he w as sure the council would approve it because it was <br />a gray area. Just a week or so ago there was anotlier violation but even <br />though city staff said it was illegal it will be allowed according to Mr. <br />Oman. I have begged some of the council members to visit our home so
