ORONO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 10,2001 <br />8. ttOi-2703 OroHo Basebaii Association, lOJO Old Crystal Bay Road—Conditional <br />Use Permit—Resolution So. 4689—Continued <br />Mr. Lindlcy slated dial the youth soccer league would also use the field. They will be able <br />to play in Uie outfields. So the fields will be used in both the spring and fall seasons by <br />over 1000 resident children. The turf of the new field is being engineered for athletic use. <br />lie stated there is a natural ravine between the baseball fields and the middle school, <br />which he wants to clean up and enhance as a wildlife habitat. <br />While asked about the e.xpcnse. Lindlcy .stated it w^s costing S225.000 - $250,000. <br />including the driveway access. The Ba.seball Association is using revenue from pull-tabs <br />at Billy's Lighthouse. The season-long play turf is more expensive to engineer. <br />Flint asked about the Willow View trail. Weinberger staled it ends south of the ravine <br />outside of the baseball area. <br />Lindlcy slated they plan to con.stmct their proposed trail connection up to the last 2”. then <br />let someone else blacktop it. Flint suggested they work with the County and City to see <br />the trail complctixl so that they are not hiring tw o sets of engineers, construction teams. <br />Lindlcy also stated iliat llie storage facility would be used by Orono soccer and football <br />teams os well as baseball. <br />Sansevere movcil, and While seconded, lo adopt Resolution No. 4689 approving a <br />Conditional Use Permit for the construction of a netv baseball field and granting <br />variances to Municipal Zoning Code Section 10.50, Subdivision 5 lo permit partial <br />use of Lot 3, Block 1 for outside storage use. <br />Vole: Ayes 5, Nays 0. <br />9. Storage of Boats on Residential Property —Ordinance 206,2"** Series <br />GaflVon slated that before Council was a draft Ordinance amendment regarding storage of <br />boat.*j on residential property. I'hc Planning Commission re\ iewed the Ordinance based <br />on comments received at a Public Hearing. StalTreviewed the issue and presented a <br />recommendation that diflered slightly from the Planning Commission ’s. <br />The Planning Commission recommended that the ordinance incorporate the following <br />concepts: <br />All boats stored outside must be licensed to the property owncr/occupont and must be <br />operable, or under active restoration for up lo 2 years. <br />Site must have a principal residence in order to store boats. <br />Maximum dimensions of boats allow ed lo be stored outside arc 44’ long and 13.5* <br />high.
