I CITY OF OROKO <br />PARK COW^ISSION / <br />1> <br />Regular neeting of the Orono Park Coi'inission <br />held April J+, 1978: <br />The Orono Park Commission net on the above data <br />with the following members present: Chairman <br />Tomlinson, Berglund, Kelley, Egers, V.'atson, <br />Peterson. Absent: Lathrop. Also Present: <br />Jim Olson, City Engineer and John Gerhardson, <br />Public Works Coordinator, <br />The minutes of the March 7, 1978 meeting were <br />approved. <br />A letter from Orono City Administrator, Dick <br />Benson, dated 3/22/78, has assured the Park <br />Commission that various projects which have <br />been promoted by the commission are, in fact, <br />scheduled to begin or continue in the upcoming <br />construction season. <br />ATTEKDA21CE <br />MINUTES APPROVED <br />LETTER FROM DICK ^SON <br />Park Projects Will Be On <br />Schedule <br />Chairman Tomlinson, as directed by the conntiission, ACCEPTANCE OF TREE PLANTINGS <br />has contacted Mr. Larry Gleason, whose property by Mr. Larry Gleason, whose <br />is surrounded by Hackberry Park, regarding the property is surro\uided by <br />location of transplanted trees in that park, Mr, Hackberry Park <br />Gleason was appreciative of our concern and was <br />willing to accept tree planting in the park <br />wherever it could best serve the recreational and <br />esthetic needs of the park. A drawing of the <br />park, with tree planting priorities noted, has <br />been sent to the city Public Works Coordinator <br />as a guide for Hackberry Park plantings. <br />Initial grading of Bederwood Park will begin <br />when ground conditions allow. <br />Mr, Otto Christensen, •- •ail planner for the <br />Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, <br />presented his department's plans for a replace <br />ment bridge at the crossing of the Luce Line <br />Trail and Orono Orchard Road. The proposed <br />structure would bo a clear span arched bridge, <br />10 FT. pathway of steel construction with wood <br />rails and trim. Primary reasons for considering <br />a new bridge were: <br />1 . Inability of current bridge to <br />accoronot^te road and drainage im <br />provements without dismantling. <br />* 2. Increasing cost of new bridge in <br />future years if installation is <br />delayed. <br />3. Difficulty experienced by trail users <br />who must cross at road grade elevation. <br />A motion by Tomlinson, seconded by Kelley, to <br />recommend to the city council that DNR plans for <br />a new bridge be favorably considered was unanimously <br />passed. <br />BEDERWOOD PARK GRADING <br />NEW BRIDGE AT LUCE LINE <br />TRAIL AT ORONO ORCHARD RD. <br />Mr. Otto Christensen, from <br />DNR, recommended witn com <br />mission members to council. <br />-1-
