Tht first is that the Long Lake Creek watershed
area whidi includes the wedands is very inqiortant in this area. Itholdslotsofwildlife-
tiie wooducks and mallards nest tiiete as will as Blue Herons and Egrets. Weha.edeer
and coyote and all the smaller mammals and many songlnrds. It is the main reason
people like to live along here, and I hope that whatever construction is done it will be
well wititin all of Orono’s wetland ordinances.
The second concern is the lighting ofdiisqwrts area. We look right over the wetland and
creek. Our house is positioned to take advantage of h. Extra nighttime lights would be a
huge detriment ix)t only to our wildlife but also to the serenity s^ quiet of our view fiom
our living room and bedroom. I think lit hockey rinks belong in nark areas and have
encouraged Orono to consider one at the Golf Couiw* ra. The peacefulness of tiiis arra
would be ruined by a lit rink.
Thanks for considering our issues. I guess the Wilsons are the most impacted by this
plan. Tbereisanareaattheendofthe Abingdon Way culde sac that is higher and
fhrther removed fiom the creek and wetland area that would be better for a court as you
wouldn’t have to alter the land area as much. However 1 still think the lights would be a
bad idea for all nei^bon in the area.
Susan and Steve Wilson
