John Messier with Landfoim Designs <br />stated that they were working with Don Sole on the afToidable housing issue. Sole was <br />unable to attend the meeting, but is an expert on the issue and helping them find solutions <br />to the issue. <br />Richard Kroeger of 65 Stubbs Bay Road stated that he felt 1-bedroom units should cost <br />around $170,000. He encouraged Council to push for low-income affordable housing in <br />the development. <br />Messier stated the price points won’t be set until next j«ar, and prices could come down <br />some firom dieir proposed points. <br />Kendra Lindahl of Landfoim Designs stated that the average home in Orono costs <br />$394,000 and while $250,000 is not affordable for everyone, it is a new option for living <br />in Orono. ^ <br />Jonathan Farmer of565 Old Crystal Bay Road stated he felt it is unconscionable to create <br />housing at such a high density without including low-income housing in the development. <br />He stated that Plymouth and Wayzata had both found ways to include low-income <br />housing in their communities. He asked how many people who work in Orono can <br />actually afford to live there. <br />Gaflfon stated the City was not making any allowances on the density. The development <br />IS within the allowed density for the zone. <br />Murphy stated that he appreciated the residenU’ comments, but warned against referring <br />to averages because there are neighborhoods within Orono where property values arc low <br />and then many high value areas that drive up the averages. <br />White stated that there will be low-income townhouses opening in Navarre soon that are <br />designed with families in mind. The current project is meant for couples, voung and old <br />who don’t have children living at home. ' ’ <br />Phyllis O’Malley of2740 Kelly Avenue stated that teachers’ salaries start at about <br />$30,000 and it is impossible for them to live in Orono. <br />Sansevere stated that Long Lake and Orono share conununity and there is affordable <br />housing in both Long Lake and Maple Plain. <br />A
