What will be the classroom Impact <br />of the Stage IWo cuts ($800,000} for <br />2003.2004? <br />Kindergarten <br />I. All-day. every-other-day kindergarten will mean: <br />—C'urrent class si/es (average 20) will be <br />preserved, but will require a longer scht>ol day <br />for kindergartners. <br />-Revamping lesson plans, taking into <br />consideration the effects of a h»nger Sv-hmtl day <br />for five- to si.v-year-olds (e.g.. shorter student <br />intention spans in the afteriUMin). <br />(•rades 5>7 <br />I. If moving from an 8- to 7-period day with staff <br />reductions: <br />—Average class size will be 27, with a range of <br />2.*»-.^2 students per class. <br />—Reduced course of ferings. <br />i <br />2. If maintaining a 7-period day w i(h staff reductions: <br />—Av erage class size would be 35. with a range of <br />.30 ti> 40 students per class. <br />—^Theie would be less individual instruction and a <br />reduction in the number of complex research, <br />writing, and sfvaking presentation project.s and <br />papers that could be assigned and corrected. <br />—Course offerings with lower student registrations <br />would not be offered, hav ing a dramatic impact <br />on some elective and advanced placement <br />offerings.
