This includes providing sev.er and water scr\ ice to the new fire station. The <br />depth and capacity of the sewer line is being increased to ser\e future sewer needs in Orono west of <br />Willow Drive. The additional cost of the added depth and capacity is estimated at S70.000. Orono <br />has agreed to pay the additional cost from the sewer fund, which will be reimbursed through future <br />connection charges. <br />The sewer and water project is to be undertaken in 2002, but has been delayed. This delay can cause <br />a problem in construction coordination with ihe fire station in two ways. First, the sewer and water <br />lines serving the fire station are to be located under the new roadway that w ill ser\ e the fire station. <br />If the installation of the water and sew er lines is delayed until fall, it would disrupt the grading and <br />paving on the fire station site. Secondly, because water and sewer ser\ ice is required for the <br />operation of the building, a substantial delay in the completion of the water and sewer proiect could <br />delay the occupancy of the fire station. <br />Change Order <br />The proposed solution to the problem of grading and paving on the fire station site is to break out <br />the portion of the sewer and water project that is under the roadway serving the fire station and add <br />it to the fire station project as part of the work of the site utility subcontractor. Because the cost of <br />this work is estimated to be approximately S70,000, which is the same amount as Orono has agreed <br />to pay for the broader Highway 12 utility project, this portion of the project can proceed based on <br />Orono paying 570,000 of the cost. This w ill then ser\’e as Orono’s contribution to the broader utility <br />project. <br />A proposal request reflecting the fire station water and sewer work has been prepared and the site <br />utility contractor has provided a cost. The cost is $82,220. We have reviewed the change order <br />prices and they are reasonable, and correspond with the initial cost estimate for the amount of work <br />that could be completed for $70,000. The cost for this change order is greater than $70,000 to allc w <br />for completion of a project with practical starting and ending points. The project needs to start and <br />end at manholes to allow for the necessary television inspection and testing of the new sewer line. <br />The maiuhole locations in the original project design do not correspond exactly to the amount of work <br />ritfi ...................
