MN 55323 <br />:,r. <br />Re: Suburban Rate Authority - Proposed 2003 Budget'Assessnient Reduction <br />Dear Mayor Peterson: <br />The Suburban Rate Authority (SRA) values your city's membership in this important joint powers <br />organization. The SRA works hard to protect the interests of its member municipal governments and <br />their residents and businesses in telecommunication and utility matters. <br />Each year at the April meeting, the SRA Board recommends a proposed budget for review by each SRA <br />member city council. EtKlosed is the proposed SRA budget for 2003, approved by the SRA Board on <br />April 17, 2002. Final approval of the budget is made at the July SRA Board meeting, scheduled this <br />year for July 17 in Bloomington. <br />The SRA board is pleased to recommend a 25% reduction in the member assessment amount for 2003 <br />and for the foreseeable future. This is due to in part to a deregulated utility en\'ironment in which long <br />and costly rate cases arc rare, and in part to the SRA’s careful selection of issues for participation. As <br />the enclosed review of SRA accomplishments will indicate, however, we remain actively involved in <br />matters of significant importance to SRA city governments and their ratcpa) er residents and businesses. <br />We ask that you and the city council review the proposed-SRA 2003 Budget and the summary of the <br />SRA’s current and past accomplishments.
