SEP 0 8 2003 VII T or UHONO Datc:09/08/03 Item No: J Department Approval:Administrator Reviewed: Agenda Section: Name: Title: Kurt Rrickson Sergeant Item Description: Request to dispose of surplus police vehicles Exhibits: DISCUSSION: The Orono Police Department is interested in disposing of three vehicles which are no longer in use and have no continuing value to the City. I'hese vehicles have been fully functional emergency police cars that due to high milage were replaced earlier tliis year through the 2003 budget. The cars in question are two 2000 Ford Crown Victoria ’s vehicle ID numbers arc 2FAFP71W6YX1 52093 / 2FAFP71 W4YX152092 and one 1998 Ford Crown Victoria vehicle ID number 2F ALP71W3 VX151904 . In the past the police department has sold retired squad cars through the 1 lennepin County Auction or by conducting in house sealed bids with public advertising. This year the police department has become aware that Soderholm Auction Company in Maple Plain is willing to list these cars and sell them through public auction with their cn-line public auction service. There is expense on the part of the City to advertise and get these cars ready for sale if staff is to conduct the sale. It is hoped that the broader audience diat Soderholm has to offer will draw- increased bidding to help offset fees will charge. Soderholm ’s is offering to sell these cars for, a $50 internet registration fee and 7.5 % of the sale price. Soderholm's are a licensed car dealer in the State of Minnesota and the car will be sold by them to the final bidder. Soderholm will also ensure the title transfer is out of the City of Orono name.
