The Willow Drive/County <br />Road 6 intersection currently meets the Warrants for the installation of Four-Way stop signs. <br />The installa ’vv. '•‘‘a Four-Way stop condition should reduce the number and severity of right angle <br />crashes : .itersection. fhe one disadvantage of stop signs on County Road 6 is a possible <br />increase in the number of rear end collisions. However, these types of crashes tend to less severe <br />than right angle crashes and normally result in fewer injuries. The amount of traffic queuing on <br />County Road 6, during the peak hour conditions, was modeled for a Four-Way stop condition and <br />is about 10 cars which is a B Level of Service. The traffic queuing Level of Service on the Willow <br />Drive approaches improves from a D level to an A level under the Four-Way stop condition. <br />Four-Way stop signs could be installed now without completing any other intersection <br />improvements and should result in a substantial increase in the safety of the intersection. <br />The City staff recommendation is for Council approval of the installation of Four-W'ay Stop Signs <br />at this intersection and to authorize City staff to work with the Hennepin County Transportation <br />Department on the installation of Four-Way Stop Signs at the W'illow Drive/County Road 6 <br />intersection as soon as possible. <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED <br />Motion to accept the Willow Drive/CR 6 Intersection Feasibility Study and to authorize City staff <br />to present the study to the Hennepin County Transportation department for review and to begin <br />discussions on a future intersection reconstruction arid traffic signal project. <br />Motion to approve the recommendation in the Willow Drive/CR 6 Intersection Feasibility Study for <br />the installation of Four-Way Stop Signs at this intersection and to authorize City staff to work with <br />the Hennepin County Transportation Department on the installation of Four-Way Stop Signs at the <br />W'illow Drive/County Road 6 intersection as soon as possible. <br />Page 3 of 3
