w4
Varian cc/Haritatitp mui—t'ferW? Fagerness Point Road, Orono
Richard and Collette Roberts
Our goal and intent is to make our property and access to the lake safer and
we would appreciate your granting us the necessary variance in order to
complete this project.
Our plan is to simply replace the existing railroad ties that were there to hold
the grade in place with some more aesthetically pleasing 6x6 brown treated
lumber and to create 4 or 5 steps down to the lake to help some of our family
members manage the steep grade down to the lake. The change to the land is
very minimal. Safety and safe lake access are the keys here.
With these proposed changes, our walkway will be safer for all, making it
easier for family members to participate in boating activities thus bringing
back enjoyment of the lake to some members of the family for which it has
been dificult thc5e past few years.
We have several family members with hardships within the famHy Ibat^ wo
are trying to address. Collette's mother had a stroke and is unable to see out
of her left side and she has also lost some mobility and has sustained nerve
damage on her left side thus she has difficulty navigating uneven terrain.
Collette's sister has only one eye, so she has very limited peripheai vision and
she also has a muscle difHculty which throws off her balance. Both
individuals need to be helped or supported while walking, especially on our
property and even down our driveway which also has a steep slope. Collette
is very close to her family and they come to visit often and of course they
enjoy going on boat rides and sitting down by the water when they come to
visit.
We also had a retaining wall on our property on the north side of Fagerness
Point Road, which has fallen down. Prior to it failing down, it bad been
leaning into the driveway for a coupk of years. This was a hazard or an
accident waiting to happen with our three young boys playing in the yard.
Our intent for this area is to replace the 6X6 timbers from that fallen wall
with retaining wall blocks to make sure that the wall stays in place and holds
the steep giade of our front lawn so as not to erode away. This wall will
round the corner from the driveway and go along Fagerness Point Road
along the property/roadway line. Thb will enable the property to ftially be
repaired and maintain an area that was very difficult to mow and keep up
due to the steep grade and slope of the land. The new retaining wall will be
stronger and safer Tor all.
.V
f f
V
i'
I '5 V'L'
• r’V__
O
B
4
J
